Three area track teams place well at Neodesha

NEODESHA — Uniontown High, Yates Center High and Humboldt High track teams found good weather awaiting them at Thursday’s Neodesha High Invitational.
All three schools had strong performances.
Uniontown’s Kate Spainhoward won the discus and the shot put events. Spainhoward’s winning throw in the shot was 33 feet, 8 1/2 inches and she won the discus with a throw of 99’8”. Emily Aikins was fourth.
Coming off an ankle injury, Abbie Smith set a meet record in winning the long jump with a leap of 16’7”. Aikins placed fourth in the event.
Smith also took first in the 100-meter high hurdles in 16.7 seconds and was third in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles. Aikins placed second in the 100-meter dash.
Jessica Schaaf was second in the 3200-meter run and fourth in the 1600-meter race. Kelsey Mathis was fourth in the 400-meter dash. Jacy Ermel took second in the javelin.
Staying in the girls’ division, Humboldt’s Raquel Hill claimed gold in the 3200-meter run in 13:58. Hill was second in the 1600 meters in 6:30.
The Lady Cubs’s 4x800-meter relay team of Hill, Emily Durand, Darah Tinkler and Michaela Bartlett was fourth in 12:27.
Yates Center High’s Haley Bedell was second in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 53.8 seconds. Cherokee Schaffer was second and Bedell fourth in the high jump, both clearing the bar at 4’2”.
Yates Center’s boys were led by Dylan Sicka winning the three distance races. He won the 3200-meter run in 10:38.2 then had personal best times in the 800-meter run, 2:03, and the 1600-meter run, 4:42.8.
Donnie Bennett won the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in a personal best time of 41.7 seconds. He was second in the 100-meter high hurdles in 16.9. Jacob Pennuto was fifth in the 400-meter dash in 55.7 seconds and David VanHoose was sixth in the 200-meter dash in 24.4 seconds.
Pennuto, Bennett, VanHoose and Austin Knobloch combined for a fourth-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay in 46.9 seconds. Pennuto, VanHoose, Bennett and Brent Rice turned in a fifth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay race in 3:51. Rice placed sixth in the high jump at 5’2”.
Humboldt’s Chris Winner won the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.1 seconds with teammate Scott Sollars in fifth at 18.2. Sollars was third in the triple jump at 38’10 1/2”.
Andy Hill placed fourth in the 1600-meter run in 5:01 and sixth in the 3200-meter run in 11:52.9. He was fourth in the high jump at 5’4”.
Kevin Barker took sixth in the 400-meter dash in 56.7 seconds. He combined with Sollars, Winner and Nick Miller to claim second in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:42.9.
Uniontown’s Ben Dixon took third in the long jump, fifth in the 100-meter dash and fourth in the 200-meter dash.
David Shank placed third in the discus with UHS teammate Colt Bartlett taking fifth. Bartlett was third in the shot put and Shank placed fourth.
Yates Center’s athletes go to Burlington Tuesday. Uniontown prepares for the Crest High Invitational next Thursday to be held at Iola’s Riverside Park. Humboldt goes to Cherryvale next Friday.
