Yellowjackets sting the Cubs

FREDONIA — A cold spell at an inopportune stretch of the third quarter spoiled what had been one of Humboldt High’s best games of the season.
The Cubs led host Fredonia High 24-21 at the break before going cold after halftime.
Fredonia took a 36-32 lead after three periods, then closed the game with a 19-12 run to win 55-44.
“We missed some easy baskets and made some mistakes in a three-minute span of the third quarter that cost us,” Humboldt head coach David Taylor said. “We played very well the first half and very hard the entire game.”
Chris Coronado led the Cubs with what Taylor said was possibly his best game of the season. Coronado scored 12 points, while Tevin Strack added 11 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Thad Wells added five rebounds and two assists.
Hayes Farwell paced Fredonia with 22 points. Tyler Worcester added 15.
The loss caps the regular season for the Cubs, who begin Class 2A substate play next week.
