Yellowjackets defeat Yates Center girls

FREDONIA — Yates Center High’s Wildcat girls scored 43 points, which was twice as many as they’ve been able to put up the past couple of games. But on Tuesday it wasn’t enough against host Fredonia High’s Yellowjackets.
Fredonia defeated Yates Center 66-43 in Tri-Valley League play. The Wildcats dropped to 1-11 in league action and 4-13 overall.
“We didn’t execute in the second quarter and broke down defensively,” said Leon Weber, YCHS girls’ head coach.
Yates Center trailed 15-12 after one quarter but Fredonia went on a 20-4 run in the second period. The Wildcats never recovered from that run.
“We did spread the scoring around but we made too many mistakes. We didn’t hit free throws either,” Weber said.
Yates Center was 12 of 29 from the free-throw line while Fredonia was 5 of 7.
Taylor Heffern led Yates Center with 10 points. Kassy Reynolds had eight points and eight rebounds.
Fredonia got 19 points from Tianna Lazzers and 15 from Kaitlyn Rogers. Sloan Kalinowski had 10 points.
Yates Center goes to Neodesha Friday.
