Humboldt High’s Christian Hicks (27) is wrapped up by Fredonia High defender Bryson Allen (21) in the first half of their contest Friday. Hicks rushed for 50 yards in the Cubs’ 36-7 loss.

HUMBOLDT — Humboldt High was done in Friday due to a decided disadvantage at the line of scrimmage.
And in the backfield.
And in just about every other area of the game, according to Cub head coach Mike Miller.
Visiting Fredonia High spoiled Humboldt’s homecoming with a 36-7 victory.
The loss drops the Cubs to 2-2.
“They were the more physical team, and that showed in the final score,” Miller said. “We pretty well got owned about every way you could.”
The Yellowjackets rolled up 279 rushing yards, while limiting Humboldt to 101 yards in total offense.
The Cubs kept things interesting through the first half, advancing as far as the Fredonia 18-yard line in the first quarter.
But that drive ended on a failed fourth down pass, and Fredonia began its march to the end zone as the first quarter ended.
Quarterback Billy Graves bowled in on a three-yard run early in the second period to kick start a 19-point quarter for the Yellowjackets.
Graves found Devin Baker for a 32-yard touchdown pass midway through the period, then scored on a two-yard run with 1:20 left in the half.
“We didn’t start out too badly in the first quarter, but then we were done in by missed tackle after missed tackle,” Miller said. “And we just didn’t come out with any fire in the second half.”
The lead grew to 29-0 by the end of the third quarter.
The Cubs dented the scoreboard with 1:25 left in the fourth quarter on a two-yard run by Hayden Boring.
Christian Hicks rushed 50 yards. Boring added 29 yards on seven carries. Derrik McCall completed 6 of 13 passes for 51 yards, four of which went to Boring for 39 yards.
In halftime festivities, Jacob Manbeck was crowned homecoming king. Kassidy Young was named queen.
Humboldt travels to Caney Valley next Friday.
