NEODESHA — Yates Center High softball and baseball teams played Tri-Valley League doubleheaders at Neodesha Tuesday. The games were moved from Monday because of weather.
Neodesha High’s Bluestreak girls defeated Yates Center’s Wildcats 12-2 in the first game. Jessica Grisier was the starting pitcher and Daryean Estes came on in relief late in the game.
The Wildcats got a double each from Sabra Aguirre and Kassy Rey-nolds. Maggie German singled.
“We hit the ball right at them and couldn’t get the big hit when we had runners on base,” said Kathe Hamman, YCHS softball coach. “We need to be more aggressive at the plate.”
The Wildcat girls had nine hits in the second game but lost 9-8. Estes led the way with a triple and a single. German had a double and Jessica Hartwig singled.
Reynolds and Aguirre had five of the team’s nine hits. Grisier took the pitching loss.
The Wildcat boys dropped a 16-9 decision in the opener to Neodesha. Nick Leis and Michael Bettega were on the mound in the game. Defensively, the Wildcats bobbled things late in the game.
Cassidy George had two doubles and a single and Bettega hit two singles and a double. Dalton Smith had a single and a double. Hitting a single each were Ben Burke, Brent Matile, Cody Greene and Devin Gregg.
The Wildcats re-grouped defensively to win the second game 18-1 in four innings. Smith threw a one-hitter, walking one and striking out five.
Smith provided punch at the plate with four singles and four RBIs. Burke had two singles and Matile hit two doubles. Leis singled and Gregg doubled.
