Yates Center golf team is third at state

TIPTON — Yates Center High’s Wildcat boys captured third place as a team at Tuesday’s Kansas Sand Greens State Golf Tournament.
Tipton High played its home golf course well enough to win a state title with a team score of 303. Rock Hills was second with a 315.
Yates Center combined for 319 for third place.
Claiming individual med-als were Jake Morrison and Jacob Lenard. Morrison shot a 36 on the final nine holes to finish at 74 for third place.
Lenard, a four-time state tournament qualifier, lost a playoff for sixth. He shot a 76 and took the seventh-place medal.
Paul Stockebrand was 11th at 78 and Drew Stuber finished 29th with a 91. Dylan Bauman shot a 93 and Blake Francis had a 96.
“We had a great day of golf. We’ve gotten better as the season progressed and peaked at the state tournament,” said Jeff Jones, Yates Center High boys’ golf coach.
Jones said the weather was much of a factor. It stared out calm and cool then midway through the tournament there was 30 minutes of misting. He said it became windy late in the tournament.
