Wildcats win three

YATES CENTER — With a flurry of victories at the end of the regular season, Yates Center High’s Wildcat boys improved to 14-4.
Yates Center defeated Cherryvale 17-4 in a makeup game Thursday, then played a doubleheader with Uniontown.
With the win over Cherryvale, the Wildcats are co-champions of the Tri-Valley League.
Jordan Hughes got the pitching win with Ben Burke pitching the final two innings of the five-inning game.
Burke had a triple, double and single. Hughes hit two double and a single. Michael Bettega had two singles and a double and Cody Green had two singles. Dalton Smith had a single and a double. Nick Leis doubled. Brent Matile and Cory Hedstrom each singled.
The Wildcats swept a home doubleheader against Uniontown, 10-6 and 20-8.
Leis and Burke pitched the first game. Hedstrom, Smith and Bettega worked on the mound in the second game.
Hitting for the two games for Yates Center: Smith had two doubles and single; Burke had a single and a triple; Matile hit two home runs, a triple and a double; Bettega had two singles and three doubles; Hughes hit a home run, a double and two singles; Green singled; Hedstrom had a single and a double, Derik Shaw singled; Leis singled and doubled.
Yates Center hosts a Class 2-1A regional next week.
