Wildcat boys fall to Jays

PLEASANTON — The strategy was in place.
Marmaton Valley High was set to foul a Pleasanton High player as soon as they crossed midcourt in the waning seconds to prevent the Blu-Jays from launching a game-tying three-pointer.
“But for some reason, we didn’t foul him in time,” Wildcat head coach Jeremy Boldra said.
Instead, Kolbee McKee’s trey fell through the net as the buzzer sounded, tying the game at 44-44.
The Blu-Jays added another clutch three-pointer, this one with 30 seconds left in overtime, to defeat the Wildcats 51-48.
The loss drops Marmaton Valley to 7-11 overall and 2-4 in Three Rivers League.
“We it to win,” Boldra said. “We controlled the second half, and we pretty much had the fourth quarter in control.
“But then we didn’t foul.”
The game was a see-saw affair through the first half.
Marmaton Valley led 14-11 after one quarter before the Blu-Jays forged ahead 27-25 at the break. The Wildcats re-emerged on top 38-35 after three.
Robert McEwan led the Wildcats with 16 points, while Tom Stinnett and Garret Ericson both scored eight.
McKee’s 12 points led Pleasanton. T.J. Davis chipped in with 11 and Tyler Myrick added 10.
