Uniontown boys win regional game by forfeit

UNIONTOWN — Uniontown High’s Eagle boys won a 2009 Kansas Classs 2-1A Baseball Regional Tournament game without stepping on the ball diamond.
Altoona-Midway High’s Jets had to forfeit Monday’s first-round contest. According to AMHS athletic director Vern Minor, the Jets had a “lack of eligible players.”
Minor told the Register this morning that when a player quit during the season, it left the team with nine players. Other circumstances left the Jets without a complete team to compete.
Uniontown (4-9) advances to the tournament semifinals hosted by Yates Center High School.
The Eagles play top-seeded Humboldt (13-4) at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Yates Center. Yates Center (12-4) plays Marmaton Valley (7-8) at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The Class 2-1A regional championship game is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday.
