Titans romp over Trojans

MELVERN — Southern Coffey County head coach John Chanley found himself with the best of both worlds Friday.
First of all, the Titans opened the 2009 season with a 36-6 romp over host Marais Des Cygnes Valley.
And Southern Coffey County committed just enough errors that Chanley can keep the players’ attention in next week’s practices.
“There are several things we can work on offensively and defensively,” Chanley said. “Still, the kids played well.”
The Titans found an assortment of ways to reach the end zone — rushing, passing, recovering a fumble and returning a punt. The defense added a safety to boot.
Drew Parrish opened the proceedings with a quarterback sack for a safety to give the Titans a 2-0 lead.
Ben Spencer followed with a pair of touchdown passes, covering 45 yards to Trevor Smith and 15 yards to Chyler Ludolph.
Parrish followed with a 14-yard touchdown run to start the second half scoring and Ludolph returned a Trojan fumble 12 yards for another score. Smith pushed the lead to 36-0 with a 66-yard punt return late in the third quarter.
The Trojans avoided a shutout with a touchdown early in the fourth quarter.
Spencer completed 12 of 22 passes for 159 yards. Smith had 82 yards on four catches and 78 yards on 14 rushes. Ethan Graham added 62 yards on 10 carries. Parrish rushed eight times for 28 yards and had an eight-yard reception. C. Ludolph had 60 yards on six catches. Aaron Ludolph also had a nine-yard catch for the Titans.
The Titans travel to Waverly next Friday.
