TRL title goes to Louk; area runners compete at Burlington Invitational

BURLINGTON — The Burlington High Invitational cross country meet has a split personality. It has become three meets in one — an invitational and the league meets for the Tri-Valley and Three Rivers League schools.
Marmaton Valley High’s Zach Louk combined two of those into one. Louk captured the overall individual championship which meant he was the Three Rivers League champion for the second year in a row. He ran the 5K distance in 18 minutes, 3 seconds.
Staying in the Three Rivers League, Marmaton Valley’s Ryan Smith was fourth in the league and 14th overall in 19:46 and Carlos Gonzales was eighth in the league and 55th overall in 22:25.
Jamee McEndree of Marmaton Valley took 15th overall in the girls’ varsity race. That put her second in the Three Rivers League, running the 4K race in 18:16.
Switching to the Tri-Valley League, Yates Center High’s Paul Stockebrand earned the 18th-place medal overall in the boys’ varsity race, His 19:53 time earned him sixth place in the TVL.
Defending TVL and BHS Invitational champion, Dylan Sicka and Tanner Sheldon weren’t able to compete for Yates Center because of illness and injury.
In the varsity girls’ race, Yates Center’s Cherokee Shaffer earned medals. She was 28th overall and ninth among TVL runners in 20:14.
Yates Center’s Chari Dyer was seventh in the girls’ junior varsity race in 21:15. Sam Aguirre was ninth in the junior varsity boys’ race in 17:18. Both races were two miles.
In the junior high division race, Marmaton Valley’s Kohl Endicott was third and Ashtynn Louk was seventh.
Crest and Humboldt competed at Burlington also, but no reports were received by deadline.
