TRL honors go to area athletes

Three Rivers League champion Uniontown High’s Eagle girls landed two players on the TRL all-league first-team. They had five earn league honors.
Three Rivers League volleyball and football coaches recently named the 2009 All-TRL all-league teams. Twenty-nine area athletes received postseason league recognition.
Uniontown senior Abbie Smith and Crest High senior Amanda Strickler were unanimous selections to the All-TRL volleyball first team. Sophomore Jacy Ermel, Uniontown, joined them on the first team.
Claiming second-team honors were Uniontown juniors Jessie Camac and Tiffany Poyner. Senior Jessica Schaaf of Uniontown received honorable mention.
The Eagles went 7-0 in TRL volleyball play and finished 33-5. They won a Kansas Class 2A Substate Championship and went 1-2 in pool play at the 2009 Kansas Class 2A State Volleyball Tournament in Hays.
Marmaton Valley High’s Cheyanne Miller, a junior, received TRL second-team honors. MVHS senior Alysha Westhoff earned honorable mention. The Wildcats went 2-5 in league play and 6-28 overall.
Crest, which finished third in the league at 4-3, had senior Melissa Honn and junior Ashley Catt receive honorable mention. The Lady Lancers were 22-13 overall.
Crest High’s Lancers went undefeated in Three Rivers League Eight-Man football play. Crest saw 12 players receive honors from league coaches after going 4-0 in TRL in 2009.
Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats had three players fill four first-team spots on the TRL eight-man all-league team.
Crest sophomore Jayden Bowen earned first-team honors as offensive center and honorable mention as defensive lineman. Seniors C.J. Cole and Jake Tinsley were first-team selections as offensive linemen.
Lancer senior Bryan Newton was unanimously chosen as a running back and was a first-team selection as a defensive back. Dexter Wiley, a junior, was first-team defensive back also.
Crest junior Kenny Vencel was named the all-league kicker and freshman Kyle Hammond was named the all-league punter.
Senior Micah Smith was unanimously chosen as a linebacker on defense with CHS teammate Dakota Ramsey, a junior, receiving honorable mention.
Smith earned honorable mention as a running back on offense. Junior Bryan Miller was honorable mentions as a receiver and Hammond as quarterback.
Crest senior Zach Stinnett and junior Thomas Dietrich were named all-league defensive linemen.
Marmaton Valley High’s Skyler Houk garnered unanimous selections as a receiver on offense and as defensive lineman. Senior Logan Booth claimed unanimous honors as running back and junior Shawn Storrer was a unanimous selection as linebacker.
Three Rivers League 11-man football teams Uniontown, Oswego and Pleasanton selected all-league honors also.
Uniontown High’s Eagles had four players collect league honors. Senior Ben Dixon was a first-team receiver offensively and a first-team defensive back.
Junior Matt Maloney is a first-team offensive guard plus earned honorable mention as linebacker defensively. Junior Tyler Hall was a first-team defensive end and junior Ty Clayton earned first-team honors as linebacker.
