Sonic Blast captures tourney title

JOPLIN, Mo. — Sonic Blast, an 18-and-under girls fastpitch softball team out of Humboldt, went undefeated in this weekend’s Summer Jam tournament in Joplin.
The team has a roster of Humboldt and Iola players and is coached by Brad Piley of Humboldt.
Members of the team are Lenzie Boring, Callie Umholtz, Terra Woods, Melissa Davidson, Megan Dillow, Taylyn Wells and Kelci Owens, all of Humboldt, and Jenna Sigg, Amanda Carr and Codi Ellis, all of Iola.
Sonic Blast opened the tournament with a 7-1 win over the Missouri Mystic, then defeated Titans, a team from Arkansas, 2-1.
Sonic Blast rolled past Waynesville, Mo., 9-0 and squeezed by Oklahoma Crush 2-1.
That put the local team in the championship game. Sonic Blast faced the Titans again. This time it was a 6-0 Blast victory.
Boring pitched four games and Davidson pitched one game for the Blast.
