BURLINGTON — Dylan Sicka set a Yates Center High record in the 1600-meter run at Tuesday’s Burlington High Invitational.
Sicka won the race in 4 minutes, 38.7 seconds. The former record holder was Kevin Phillips, who set the mark in 1990.
Sicka went on to have a personal-best time of 10:32.1 for third in the 3200-meter run.
“This was a huge meet with 19 teams. We kind of got covered up especially in the girls’ division but we have to remember that 75 percent of our team are freshman and sophomores,” said Dan Berg, YCHS head track coach.
Donnie Bennett won the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 43.3 seconds. He was fifth in the 110-meter high hurdles in 17 seconds.
Jacob Pennuto placed fourth in the 400-meter dash in 54.1 seconds. Pennuto combined with Bennett, Sicka and Joe Tressler to run an season-best 3:40 for third in the 4x400-meter relay race.
The only Yates Center girl to place in an event was Brae Adams. Adams took fifth in the discus with a throw of 102 feet, 7 inches.
Berg said a note of interest about Dylan Sicka’s 1600-meter record was that his brother, Dalton, set the Yates Center junior high 1600-meter mark recently at the Tri-Valley League junior high meet. Dalton is a seventh-grader and beat Dalton’s junior high record time.
The Wildcats will host the Tri-Valley League meet next Thursday.
