Shrine Bowl to be broadcast live

WICHITA — Saturday’s 2009 Kansas Shrine Bowl All-Star Football Game at Wichita State University’s Cessna Stadium can be seen live on Kansas 22 on the Cox Communications Cable system.
The football game, which starts at 7 p.m., can also be seen on Time Warner’s Metro Sports Channel in Kansas City. Plus there is a statewide network of Kansas radio stations bringing the game action to those unable to attend.
Two area players are on the Shrine Bowl East Squad, Garret Ericson of Marmaton Valley High School and Todd Johnston of Crest High School.
Ericson is a 6-4, 280-pound offensive and defensive lineman. This will be Ericson’s third all-star football game this summer. He also played in the Kansas Eight-Man All Star game and the Kansas-Nebraska Eight-Man All-Star Game in June. Ericson has signed to play football at Fort Scott Community College.
Johnston is a 6-0, 170-pound quarterback and defensive back. This will be his second all-star football game this summer. He played in the Kansas Eight-Man All-Star Game. Johnston has signed to play basketball at Cloud County Community College.
In the Cox Kansas 22 booth, Mark Ewing will handle the play-by-duties, along with long-time color analyst and former Shrine Bowl MVP Stan Weber, the ninth straight year the pair has teamed up to call the state’s premier All-Star game. Chris Allison of KSGO Radio in Wichita will report from the sidelines. The pregame show starts at 6:30 pm.
For fans who miss the live telecast, the game will be re-telecast on Kansas 22 on July 29 and Aug. 15 at 6:30 p.m. Public Television viewers can see the game on at 7 p.m. Aug. 2 on KOOD-TV (Bunker Hill), and at 8 p.m. Aug. 3 on KTWU-TV (Topeka).
The radio network will include 10 stations, with WIBW-AM serving as the flagship station for the network. The game’s play-by-play will be called by Bruce Steinbrock, who will be behind the mic for his 16th Kansas Shrine Bowl. He’ll be joined by Mark Elliott.
