Scott Toland leads The Wave,
KU’s new sports magazine

Register Sports Editor

The Wave hit the University of Kansas campus Sept. 4. And atop The Wave is Iolan Scott Toland.
Toland was tagged as the lead editor for KU’s new weekly sports magazine. Toland is a junior in journalism and political science.
The Wave appears wrapped around each Friday’s student newspaper, The University Daily Kansan. It offers weekly coverage of football, basketball and other sports at Kansas and also provides perspectives from around the Big 12 Conference.
“The editor of the Kansan called me over the summer and asked if I would be The Wave editor,” Toland told The Register. “I thought is was a great opportunity for me and I’m loving it.”
The fourth edition hits the campus Friday. Toland said the feedback from KU students has been great.
Toland writes a column each week for the magazine plus works closely with the sports writers on the stories for each publication. He ranks the Top 25 college teams — in the fall it’s football — how The Wave sees them.
Toland served as copy editor for The Kansan last fall.
The Wave has a section called Kick the Kansan, which invites KU students to submit predictions of which teams will win in upcoming weeks. If their predictions are more accurate than those of Toland and other Kansan sports editors, they win prizes.
Toland isn’t sure what his future holds after KU but is enjoying just riding The Wave.
