RiverTree, Yocham Oil win titles

Iola Men’s Softball League wrapped up the 2009 season with the 42nd annual tournaments.
RiverTree Christian Church won the Lower Division Tournament on Aug. 30. RiverTree defeated Dangerous Ducks 16-15 after the Ducks forced a second game to decide the championship. Dangerous Ducks beat RiverTree 19-10 in the first game.
RiverTree moved through the tournament by defeating SEK Slayers 14-5, Dangerous Ducks 20-10 and Sweet Sixteen 20-14. Dangerous Ducks beat Bronson 31-13, lost to RiverTree, beat Moran 20-5, MAE Crude Dudes 30-11 and Sweet Sixteen 14-13.
Sweet Sixteen took third beating Moran 9-6, MAE Crude 27-24 and losing to RiverTree and Dangerous Ducks. In other games, Bronson beat SEK Slayers 28-3, MAE Crude Dudes defeated Bronson 18-10.
Last weekend, the men’s league held its Upper Division tournament.
Yocham Oil beat Keim & Sons Construction twice, 21-15 and 20-15, in the championship games. Yocham Oil’s only loss was to Keim & Sons in the winners bracket final.
Yocham Oil opened with a win by forfeit over Dangerous Ducks then beat Sonic 13-11. Dropping to the losers bracket, Yocham Oil beat Western Auto 25-13. Keim & Sons Construction beat RiverTree Christian Church 18-11, Western Auto 13-12 and Yocham Oil 14-10.
Western Auto was third in the tournament by notching a 13-6 win over Young’s Welding, losing to Keim & Sons then beating Udder Guys 16-14 and Sonic 18-17 before losing to Yocham Oil.
Other tournament games: Young’s Welding over RiverTree 20-8, Sonic over RiverTree 23-21 and Sonic over Udder Guys 9-8.
