Red Devil women win two games

The ACCC women picked up their first win of the season Friday at home over Independence Community College then won again at Neosho County Community College in Chanute Sunday.

The weekend yielded back-to-back victories for Allen County Community College’s women on the soccer pitch. Both Jayhawk Conference wins.
Allen County hosted Independence Community College’s soccer teams Friday afternoon. The Red Devil women nailed down a 5-0 win over the Lady Pirates.
It was the first win of the season for the ACCC women. Sophomore Sarah Roether scored two goals for the Devils while sophomores Abigail Bellis, Samantha Pluma and Diana Munoz each added a goal.
“The girls played great and are finally coming together as a team,” said Doug Desmarteau, ACCC head coach.
“We moved the ball well and finished some goals. We had many more opportunities to score.”
Whitney Coblentz, a freshman, tallied three assists. Munoz was credited with an assist. Allen County had 25 shots on goal.
Freshman Chelsea Reynolds was in goal for ACCC and made two saves.
Reynolds continued her stellar play as goalkeeper on Sunday in a 1-0 win over Neosho County Community College in Chanute. It was her second straight shutout as she made 10 saves.
The lone goal of the game was scored by Roether off an assist by Bellis.
“We played great again and now are figuring out how to win. It was a full team effort and all the girls contributed.”
Allen County improved 2-3 in conference play and 2-5 overall. The Red Devils travel to Concordia Wednesday to play Cloud County Community College.
