HIGHLAND — The road has not been kind to Allen County Community College’s Red Devil volleyball team. Friday the Red Devils were in Highland and lost.
Highland Community College’s Scotties defeated Allen County 25-18, 25-13, 25-19. The loss dropped the Red Devils to 2-5 in Jayhawk Eastern Division play and 12-14 overall.
Tonight, the Red Devils are home in non-conference play with Friends University’s junior varsity. The match is at 6:30.
“We mentally went in knowing what we needed to do but physically couldn’t do it. The flu bug we are sharing with each other has zapped us,” said Jessica Peters, ACCC head coach.
“Plus Highland was ready for us after we had beaten them in five sets at the Hesston tournament.”
Peters said errors in the attacking and defensive game hurt the Red Devils Friday.
She said she hoped her players would be healthier by Wednesday when Fort Scott Community College comes to the ACCC gym for conference play. Wednesday’s match starts at 6:30 p.m.
At Highland, Andrea Miller delivered seven kills, one solo block and one assisted block. Jennifer House had six kills and two solo blocks.
Credited with three kills each were Nicole Rockhold, Suzie Fields and Autumn Lamle. Amy Bolen had one kill. Fields and Lamle each had a solo block.
Mindi Lozenski had 20 set assists for ACCC. Brooke Bingham had two ace serves and an assist block. Whitney Glenn also had an assist block.
House led the Red Devils with 10 defensive digs. Misty Powelson and Bingham each had seven digs and Rockhold had six digs.
