Red Devils win at home, lose on the road

Allen County Community College third baseman Josh Ward is set to handle the baseball hit to his side of the infield during a recent home game. The Red Devils are now 10-6 overall.

Friday the 13th was lucky for Allen County Community College’s baseball team.
The Red Devils shifted their Jayhawk Eastern Division doubleheader with visiting Highland Community College from Thursday to Friday. The Red Devils got two victories and two complete-game performances on the mound on Friday.
Sophomore Jake Hosey pitched a four-hit shutout for the Red Devils in the first game. Allen County beat the Scotties 1-0.
Marcus Peavler singled to lead off the sixth for Allen County. Dillon Hazlett singled followed by a sacrifice bunt by Seth Dutton to move the runners.
Josh Ward drew a walk to load the bases for the Red Devils. William Reddick drove in the run with a base hit.
Peavler and Bretton Ater each had two singles in the game. Hazlett, reddick, Brett Miller and Ryan Herrig each had a base hit.
Hosey allowed the four hits, walked one and hit two batters. He also recorded 11 strikeouts.
In game two, sophomore Brandon Faulkner held the Scotties to three hits in a 4-1 win. He did not issue free passes to the bases and struck out nine Highland batters.
The Red Devils scored three runs in the second inning. With one out, Ward walked and Reddick doubled. Miller’s sacrifice fly brought in a run then Herrig doubled in a run and Michael Samuel’s single chased in a run.
In the sixth, Peavler and Hazlett had back-to-back singles with one gone. Peavler scored on a wild pitch. Those were the only hits of the game for ACCC.
The Red Devils improved to 2-2 in Jayhawk East play. They are 7-0 playing at home this season. They took a 10-3 overall mark on the road this weekend.
It was a rough ride as the Red Devils lost three games against host University of Arkansas-Fort Smith.
Fort Smith roughed up Allen County 11-0 on Saturday. Mark Thompson, Ben Rister and Benjamin Pearson pitched for the Red Devils. They combined to surrender 13 hits and two walks.
Peavler connected for two singles in the game. Hitting a single each were Reddick, Ward, Miller and Wyatt Hall.
In doubleheader action Sunday, Fort Smith defeated Allen County 10-6 and 8-4.
Fort Smith led 7-0 after three innings in the opener. Allen County had 11 hits scoring two runs in the fourth, one in the sixth and three in the seventh. Fort Smith added a run in the fourth and two in the sixth to stay ahead.
Ward had a triple for ACCC. Peavler scored three runs, drove in one run and had three singles. Hazlett and Ater each had two singles. Dutton, Reddick and Stefaan Jefferson each had a single.
Allen County took a 3-0 lead in the first inning of the second game. Fort Smith tied the game in the second then took the lead for good with two runs in the third inning.
Zach Dodson, David Ormiston and John Michael Moore pitched for the Red Devils. They combined to give up 10 hits and three walks plus there were two hit batters.
Dutton had two doubles and Hazlett tripled. Hitting a single each were Peavler, Reddick, Ward, Miller and Danny White.
Now, 10-6 overall, the Red Devils travel to Coffeyville Thursday then to Johnson County on Saturday. They are on the road next Tuesday at Cowley County and Thursday at Independence.
Allen County is home again on March 28 when Neosho County Community College of Chanute comes to Red Devil Field.
