Red Devils take two

PARSONS — Josh Ward hit his 10th and 11th home runs to help Allen County Community College win twice against Labette Community College on the Cardinals’ field Thursday.
The Red Devils powered past the Cardinals 11-7 in the first game. Dillon Hazlett cranked out a two-run home run in the first to lift the Devils to a 3-0 lead.
Allen County scored six runs in the second. Four came on Ward’s grand slam. The Red Devils had an 11-2 lead before the Cardinals scored five runs in the sixth.
Danny Shearman pitched 5 2/3 innings for the win as he surrendered seven runs on eight hits and one walk. Shearman struck out six.
John Michael Moore finished things on the mound, striking out two, giving up one hit and hitting one batter. Moore worked a 1-2-3 seventh.
Ward also had a double in the game and Hazlett a single. Kyle Linnebur had three singles. Bretton Ater, Seth Dutton and Williams Reddick each had two singles. Marcus Peavler singled.
In the second game, the Red Devils used 14 hits to push past the Cardinals 7-0. Ward hit a solo home run in the third inning, giving Allen County a 5-0 lead.
Ward also had a single in the game. Ryan Herrig went 3-for-4 with three base hits and Hazlett had two singles.
Wyatt Hall doubled. Hitting a single each were Ater, Peavler, Dutton and Michael Samuel.
Matthew Stalcup got the pitching victory as he threw four innings of shutout baseball. He allowed three hits, walked on and struck out seven.
Ben Rister pitched three innings and gave up one hit, walked one and struck out one.
Allen County improved to 21-11 in Jayhawk Eastern Division play with its final conference doubleheader set for home Saturday. The Red Devils (29-15) plays Kansas City, Kan., Community College at 1 p.m. on Red Devil Field.
