COFFEYVILLE — Allen County Community College’s Red Devils pounded out 14 hits — six going for extra bases — in a 13-8 victory Thursday over host Coffeyville Community College.
The Red Ravens was able to get a split in the Jayhawk Eastern Division doubleheader. They beat the Red Devils 5-2 in the second contest.
Allen County (11-7) takes a 3-3 conference mark into today’s Jayhawk East twin bill at ninth-ranked Johnson County. Johnson County (20-3) stands atop the East with a 6-0 mark.
In Thursday’s opener, freshman Marcus Peavler drove in three runs with three doubles. Sophomore Seth Dutton hit a three-run home run in the sixth to push ACCC’s lead to 10-4.
Wyatt Hall, another freshman, cranked out a double and two singles in the game to drive in two runs. Freshman William Reddick had two RBIs on a single and a double.
Sophomore Jake Hosey improved to 5-0 on the mound. Hosey worked 4 1/3 innings, giving up three runs on six hits and four walks and a hit batter. He struck out two.
John Michael Moore, the Red Devils’ freshman closer, worked 2 2/3 innings. Moore was charged with five runs on two hits, one walk and a hit batter. He struck out three.
Allen County scored twice in the first inning. Peavler doubled with one out and Dillon Hazlett drew a walk. With two gone, Reddick and Josh Ward had back-to-back RBI singles.
Coffeyville scored a run in the first and third innings to tie the game up.
Peavler delivered a two-run double in the fourth with two gone. Danny White had been hit by a pitch and Bretton Ater walked.
In the fifth, the Red Devils plated three runs. One came on a squeeze sacrifice bunt by Brett Miller as Reddick scored. Hall doubled in two runs.
The Ravens made it 7-4 going into the sixth inning. Peavler reached on an error to start the sixth for Allen County. Hazlett singled and stole second then Dutton hammered out his third homer of the season. Dutton’s home run was over the left field fence and pushed him to 20 RBIs this season.
Coffeyville came right back to score four runs in its half of the sixth. It was 10-8.
Hall had a leadoff single and stole third with one gone in the seventh. Peavler hit a double, driving in a run and swiped third base. Hazlett reached on an error and a run scored. With two gone, Reddick had a one-run double.
Coffeyville had a leadoff walk in its half of the inning. Moore and the Red Devils returned the next three batters to win the game.
Ward and White each had two singles. Hazlett singled.
In the second game, Coffeyville had a 4-0 lead by the end of two innings. The Red Devils scored twice in the fourth.
Dutton singled but was out on a fielder’s choice hit by Reddick. Ward drew a walk then Hosey and White had back-to-back singles. A sacrifice fly to center field by Michael Samuel plated a run.
Coffeyville scored once in the fifth to make it 5-2.
Brandon Faulkner took the loss to go 3-2 on the season. He worked five innings, surrendering five runs on six hits and four walks. He struck out four. Zach Dodson worked one inning and gave up a hit.
Hitting two singles each for ACCC were Hazlett, Dutton, Hosey and White. Reddick and Peavler each had a base hit.
