Northeastern Oklahoma A&M probably thought it was going to make quick work of host Allen County Community College Friday evening.
But the Red Devils had different plans.
After dropping the first two sets to NEO, Allen County rallied to win the next two sets which forced a deciding fifth set in the volleyball match.
“It was a very intense match with two great teams,” said Jessica Peters, ACCC head coach.
The Lady Norsemen were serving game and match point at 14-8. Peters said Mindi Lozenski served up four straight points with Jennifer House and Andrea Miller at the net for kills.
Allen County lost when a hit by a Red Devil fell outside the line on the NEO side of the court.
“The scores say a lot about the match,” Peters said. “We’re looking forward to playing them again at their home in Miami, Okla., later this season.”
NEO defeated Allen County 25-22, 25-23, 17-25, 23-25, 15-12.
The Red Devils take a 10-7 overall mark into their home match tonight against Cowley County (10-3). Allen County is 1-1 in Jayhawk Eastern Division play while Cowley County is 3-0.
Tonight’s volleyball match starts at 6 o’clock.
Against NEO, Jennifer House led the net attack for the Red Devils with 16 kills and one solo block. Nicole Rockhold delivered 15 kills and Miller had 13 kills.
