Red Devils beat Cardinals

Allen County Community College’s top pitchers were in control on the mound here Wednesday. The Red Devils got in a Jayhawk Eastern Division doubleheader between rainouts.
Sophomores Jake Hosey and Brandon Faulkner notched complete-game starts as the Red Devils beat visiting Labette Community College 6-3 and 6-0. Allen County improved to 8-5 in conference play and 16-9 overall.
Hosey scattered four Cardinal hits over seven innings of work. He struck out six to go 6-1 on the season.
Allen County wiped out a 1-0 deficit in the bottom of the first inning of the first game Wednesday. With one gone Marcus Peavler singled and stole second base then Dillon Hazlett drew a walk. Seth Dutton hammered out his fourth home run of the season, a three-run shot.
It was 3-2 when the same combination put two more runs on the board for ACCC. Peavler singled, stole second, Hazlett walked with one gone in the third. Hazlett stole second which brought out a wild throw by the Cardinals allowing Peavler to score and Hazlett to advance to third. Dutton singled in Hazlett.
In the sixth, Stefaan Jefferson was hit by a pitch and scored on a two-out single by Bretton Ater.
Peavler had three singles and Dutton had a single and a home run. Hitting a single each were Ater, William Reddick and Jefferson.
Faulkner recorded his first shutout of the season in the second contest. He allowed five hits and hit a batter but had three strikeouts.
Allen County produced a run in the first on three straight singles by Peavler, Hazlett and Dutton.
In the third frame, Peavler drew a leadoff walk and went to third on a wild throw. Hazlett delivered an RBI triple and scored on a double by Dutton. Josh Ward doubled in Dutton.
Michael Samuel walked with two gone in the innings. Wyatt Hall had a two-run base hit.
The other hit of the game was a single by Reddick.
Today’s doubleheader at Highland Community College was postponed until April 19.
Allen County is slated to play at Fort Scott Saturday and host Neosho County Sunday. Both doubleheaders begin at 1 p.m.
