Prep regionals set for spring

Iola High’s Mustangs are playing Kansas Class 4A regional tennis today. Postseason competitions are upon Kansas high school spring sports.
Most sports still have a week left of regular season competition but that poses a scramble for makeup dates. Baseball and softball teams are trying to squeeze in as many games as possible between now and May 15. But only games played by May 13 will count in team seedings for regionals.
The IHS boys tennis team is in a five-team Class 4A regional tournament in Fort Scott today. In the tournament, Iola, Chanute, Ottawa, Paola and Fort Scott are competing for substate slots. At the other regional today in Independence are Labette County Coffeyville, Columbus, Parsons and Independence.
On Friday, the top four singles players and the top four doubles teams for each regional advance to Friday’s substate tournament at Independence. Then the top four singles players and top four doubles teams from the substate qualify for the state Tennis tournament May 15-16 in Salina.
Golf teams at Iola, Humboldt, Marmaton Valley, Uniontown, Crest and Yates Center high schools will compete in regional tournaments May 18. Kansas state golf tournaments will be played May 26.
Iola High’s Mustang golf team will be at the Class 4A regional tournament at Caney along with host Caney Valley, Labette County, Augusta, Chanute, Coffeyville, El Dorado, Independence, Parsons and Circle. The top two teams plus the next five lowest individual scores, not members of the qualifying teams, ad-vance to the state tournament. The state tournament is at Prairie Trails Country Club in El Dorado.
Humboldt, Marmaton Valley and Uniontown will be in the Class 2A regional tournament at Crestwood Country Club in Pittsburg. Other teams in the regional are host Pittsburg-St. Mary’s Colgan, Lyndon, Olpe, Oswego, Pleasanton and Sedan. The top three teams plus the next five lowest individual scores, not members of the qualifying teams, advance to the state tournament at the Salina Municipal Golf Course.
Crest High’s Lancers will compete in the Class 1A regional at the Marion Country Club golf course. Other teams in the tournament are host Lost Springs-Centre, Centralia, Chetopa, Frankfort, Hanover, Hartford, Lawrence-Bishop Seabury Academy, Linn, Powhattan-Kickapoo Nation. The top three teams plus the next five lowest individual scores, not members of the qualifying teams, advance to the state tournamen at Cherry Oaks Golf Course in Cheney.
Yates Center’s Wildcats play in a sand greens regional tournament at Leonardville. Other teams are host Riley County, Chase County, Glasco, Miltonvale and Peabody-Burns. The top two teams plus the next three lowest individual scores, not members of the qualifying teams, advance to the sand greens state tournament. The sand greens state tournament will be at the Tipton Oaks Golf Course.
Baseball and softball regional tournaments are May 18-21. Playing dates are determined by the regional tournament manager following seeding on May 13.

Yates Center High is hosting a Class 2-1A baseball regional. Along with the Yates Center will be Humboldt, Marmaton Valley, Uniontown and Altoona-Midway. The regional champion moves on to thestate tournament May 29-30 in Emporia.
Iola High’s Fillies are in the 4A softball regional at Garnett along with host Anderson County, Chanute, Fort Scott, Prairie View, Louisburg, Osawatomie and Paola. The regional champion advances to the state tournament May 29-30 in Salina.
Humboldt High is hosting a Class 2-1A softball regional. Along with the Lady Cubs will be Marmaton Valley, Uniontown, Yates Center and Altoona-Midway. The regional champion moves on to the state tournament May 29-30 in Emporia.
Track regional meets are May 22. The all-class state track meet is May 29-30 in Wichita.
Iola is in the Class 4A regional at Carbondale hosted by Santa Fe Trail High School. Other teams in the meet are Baldwin, Chanute, DeSoto, Eudora, Fort Scott, Anderson County, Girard, Prairie View, Louisburg, Osawatomie, Ottawa, Paola, Parsons and Spring Hill.
Marmaton Valley, Humboldt, Uniontown and Yates Center track teams are in the Class 2A regional at Pleasanton. Other teams are Pleasanton, Northeast-Arma, Burlingame, Immaculata, Lebo, Lyndon, Os-wego, Pittsburg-St. Mary’s Colgan, Maranatha Academy, Valley Falls and Wabaunsee.
Crest and Southern Coffey County track teams are in the Class 1A regional at Madison. Other teams are host Madison, Altoona-Midway, Burrton, Caldwell, Cedar Vale, Chetopa, Dexter, Elwood, Goessel, Hamilton, Hartford, Hope, Central Christian-Hutchinson, St. Xavier-Junction City, Elk Valley, Lost Springs-Centre, Madison, Marais Des Cygnes Valley, Kansas School for the Deaf, South Haven, St. Paul, Troy, Waverly and White City.
