Pony girls falter at home against Independence

Iola Middle School’s seventh-grade girls came close to victories at home Monday. The Pony eighth-grade girls continued to struggle.
Iola’s seventh-grade A-team fell 28-20 to visiting Independence Middle School. Independence got the edge with an 11-5 run in the second quarter to lead 13-7 at halftime.
Independence outscored Iola 6-4 in the third quarter. Each team tossed in nine points in the final period.
“At times we played well. We just aren’t very consistent right now,” said Marty Taylor, Iola head basketball coach.
Haley Slater scored 10 points for Iola. Emma Piazza added four and Emmalee Seabolt had two points.
Independence pulled out an 11-8 win in the seventh-grade B-team contest. Iola was led by Jo Lohman with four points and Morgan Wilson with two. Trilby Bannister and Brianne Jett each had one point.
Independence won the eighth-grade B-team game 18-2. Darci Collins scored Iola’s two points.
The Pony eighth-grade A-team lost 52-8. Alexis Hobbs put in four points for Iola. Emma Sigg and Danni Ware had two points each.
Iola hosts Parsons Thursday.
