Pony girls fall to Columbus

Columbus Middle School’s Lady Titans overwhelmed Iola Middle School’s Pony girls in both A-team basketball games Monday.
The IMS eighth-grade A-team lost 42-8. Paige Miller scored four points for the Ponies.
Alexis Hobbs had two points. Chay Hutton and Danni Ware had one point apiece.
Columbus pushed past the IMS seventh-grade A-team 43-9. Emmalee Seabolt tossed in three points for Iola. Scoring two points each were Lexie Long, Morgan Wilson and Haley Slater.
“We had way too much trouble with their trap,” said Marty Taylor, IMS basketball coach. “But these girls have come a long way since the first practice.”
In the seventh-grade B-team game, Columbus notched an 18-11 win over Iola.
Emery Driskel had four points for Iola. Scoring two points each were Katie Shields, Addie Haar and Hannah Stout. Chelsea Lea added one point.
“This was probably the best these girls have played as a team,” Taylor said of the B-team.
The Iola teams host Independence next Monday.
