Newton sets meet record

LYNDON — Crest High’s Brandon Newton set a new meet record in the 110-meter high hurdles Friday. Newton won the race in 15.35 seconds at the Marais des Cygnes Valley High Invitational.
Newton's winning time was two seconds ahead of the second-place finisher’s time.
Crest High’s Lancers and Lady Lancers and Southern Coffey County High’s Titans and Lady Titans competed in the 10-team track meet Friday. It was held at Lyndon High School’s track.
West Franklin won the girls’ division title with 109 points. Southern Coffey County was fourth with 56 and Crest was seventh with 34 points.
Southern Coffey County’s Shelby Birk won the triple jump and long jump events. She went 31 feet, 5 3/4 inches to beat teammate Ashton Gudenkauf, who was second at 31’5 1/2”.
Birk won the long jump with a leap of 14’11 1/2”. Gudenkauf was third at 13’10 3/4”. Crest’s Katrina Strickler was sixth in the triple jump at 27’8 1/4”.
Crest’s Amanda Strickler captured gold medals in the javelin and the discus. Strickler won the discus with a throw of 87’4”. Teammate Amber Tinsley was sixth at 75’8”.
A. Strickler won the javelin with a distance of 104’6” as teammate Cassie Smith was second at 86’3”. Caitlin Golden, Crest, was fifth in the javelin at 84’1” and Southern Coffey County’s Kaitlin Rogers placed sixth at 82’10”.
On the track, Southern Coffey County’s Laurie Ohl took second in the 100-meter dash in 12.70 seconds. Teammate Kristen Stephens was fourth in 13.92 seconds.
Southern Coffey County’s Misty Gilbert was fifth in the 3200-meter run in 17 minutes, 2.42 seconds.
In the 4x800-meter relay, Crest’s girls were fifth at 12:55.62 and Southern Coffey County was sixth at 13:24.
Southern Coffey County’s Trevor Smith posted a gold-medal time of 11.56 seconds in the 100-meter dash. Crest’s Bryan Smith was third in 11.69 seconds.
Nathan True of SCCH claimed the silver medal in the javelin with a throw of 152’5”. Teammate Jordan Clark was fifth at 135’0”. Clark took fifth in the discus at 96’5” and Crest’s Jake Tinsley was sixth, 92’8”.
Crest’s Tanner Strickler finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 38’7”. Todd Johnston of Crest was second in the long jump, 19’ 1/2”, and Southern Coffey County’s Justin Shields was fifth, 18’1”.
Bryan Newton was fourth in the high jump at 5’4” and Shields was fifth, also at 5’4”.
Crest’s 4x800-meter relay team took fifth in 9:51.42.
The boys’ information was incomplete to the Register. Efforts to get the rest of the results were unsuccessful by press time.
