Mustangs play golf through weather

FORT SCOTT — Iola High’s Mustangs and the rest of the Southeast Kansas League golfers played through cold, rainy, windy weather Tuesday at Fort Scott Country Club.
The teams got in the SEK designated tournament. Fort Scott won the it with a 305.
Chanute took second with a 316 followed by non-league Pittsburg-Colgan at 324. Parsons was fourth at 335, Pittsburg was fifth at 344 then Independence at 348 and Coffeyville at 354.
Iola had a team score of 363 for eighth. Labette County followed at 377 and Columbus had a 409.
Austin Ellis led the Mustangs with an 85 (44-41) to place 20th. Chase Ellis shot an 89 (44-45) and Bryce Burris had a 93 (50-43).
Alec Peterson turned in rounds of 48 and 48 while Chris Harrington hit rounds of 52 and 44. Both finished at 96. Doug Stewart carded a 109 (53-59).
Cole Murrin posted a winning 67 atop the field. Peyton Botts of Independence was second with a 76.
Iola lost the services of junior Seth Walden, who reinjured his ankle and most likely won’t return to play the rest of the season.
Iola hosted its own tournament today.
