Iola High’s Chris Harrington chips a shot on to the green during Tuesday’s Iola golf tournament. The Mustangs finished third as a team on the Allen County Country Club golf course.

For the first time in their four years of high school golf, Iola High seniors Chase Ellis, Austin Ellis and Bryce Burris received team medals at a tournament.
In the Mustangs’ own six-team tournament Tuesday at Allen County Country Club, the Mustangs finished third as a team. They combined for a 360.
Chanute High’s Blue Comets won the tournament with a 324 led by Jeremy Gant, Mitchell Hale and Jarren Gard. Gant won the tournament with a 73 on a cold, blustery spring day.
Hale shot a 76 for second and Gard had an 86 for fourth.
Also shooting an 86 was Iola High junior Seth Walden. Walden, Gard and Fort Scott’s Tanner Beckham had identical rounds of 45 and 41.
Fort Scott took second as team with a 343 led by Cole Murrin, who was third individually with a 79.
Chase Ellis finished 10th as he and Walden received individual medals. Chase Ellis shot a 90 (45-45).
Austin Ellis was shot out of the medals at 91 (45-46). Alec Peterson carded a 93 with rounds of 46 and 47.
Chris Harrington started out pretty well with a 43 but shot a 52 on his final nine holes for a 95. Burris hit a 96 with rounds of 49 and 47.
Chanute’s No. 4 golfer was Hunter Hudson, finishing in eighth overall with an 89. Fort Scott’s Murrin and Beckham were joined in the top 10 by teammates Dylan Renfro, seventh at 88, and Evan Heiser, ninth at 90.
