Mud Dawgs beat Indians

GARNETT — Same song just a different verse for Iola American Legion Post 15’s Indians Tuesday night.
“Again, we have too many errors defensively and not enough hits,” said Steve Conger, Indians’ head coach, on Iola’s 11-1 and 6-4 losses at Garnett Tuesday.
Garnett’s Mud Dawgs handled the Indians well enough for the sweep. Iola fell to 5-11 overall.
There were no games for the Indians against Louisburg Saturday. They were canceled.
Iola travels to Osa-watomie Thursday for two games.
Garnett scored seven runs in the third inning to break open a close first game. Iola finally got on the scoreboard in the fourth.
Chris Heffern was hit by a pitch and stole second base for the Indians. With two gone, singles by Nick Cook and Keatin Herder pushed the run across.
Garnett led 9-1, then got the run-rule win with two runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Mark Bristol started and pitched two innings for Iola. He allowed three runs on four hits, three walks and one hit batter, plus struck out two.
Herder worked 11⁄3 innings for Iola and was charged with nine runs on four hits, two hit batters and one walk. He struck out one.
The only other hit for Iola was a single by Derrek McKarnin.
The Indians got up 3-0 in the second game only to see the Mud Dawgs rally. Garnett scored three runs in the third, one in the fourth and two more in the fifth. Iola got its other run in the seventh.
Cook had a single and double. Drew Mueller and McKarnin each had two singles. Chris Heffern and Ethan Ericson each had a base hit.
Ericson was the starting pitcher for Iola.
He went four innings, giving up four runs on three hits and two walks. He struck out four.
Corey Taylor pitched two innings. He allowed two runs on five hits, one walk and one hit batter. He struck out two.
