Marmaton Valley takes second at TRL golf tourney

Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats were one of only three full teams competing in the 2009 Three Rivers League golf tournament Monday. The Wildcats finished a distant second — 15 strokes back — to TRL champion Pleasanton.
“The course was super wet with rough that hadn’t been cut for a while,” said Uniontown golf coach Jason Tourtillott. “The kids were losing balls in the fairways it was so wet and tall.”
Crest hosted the league tournament at Iola’s Cedarbrook Golf Course.
Pleasanton won the league title with a four-man total of 365 for the 18-hole tournament. Mar-maton Valley had a 380 for second and way off the pace was third-place Oswego with a 462.
Joey Morrisey of Pleasanton is the 2009 TRL individual champion.
He shot an 80.
Marmaton Valley’s Rob McEwan took the second-place medal with a 91 followed by teammates Drew Stevenson at 92 and Jordan Wojenski with a 93. Uniontown High’s Justin Query earned the ninth-place medal with a 98.
Zach Stinnett of Crest shot a 102 as the 11th place medalist. Marmaton Valley’s Dalton Houk carded a 104 for 12th place and Derek George, also of Marmaton Valley, was 13th with a 107.
Other scores by area golfers were: James Allison, Marmaton Valley, 114; Rich Rhoades, Uniontown, 135; and Drake Stephens, Crest, 140.
