Marmaton Valley’s Louk wins;
Crest Lancers capture third

MELVERN — Zach Louk opened his sophomore season of cross country with a first-place medal performance.
Marmaton Valley High’s Louk ran the 5K boys’ varsity race at Hartford High’s Arrow Rock Invitational in 17 minutes, 52 seconds.
Louk’s teammate Ryan Smith tied for 10th out of a field of 52 runners in 19:41.
Crest High’s Lancers also opened the 2009 cross country season in the Arrow Rock Invitational. They captured third place as a team with 80 points. Central Heights won the team title with 37 points and Burlington was second with 51.
The Lancers placed two runners in the top 10 led by Dustin Davis-Jones in fourth with a time of 18:52. Trevor Holman finished eighth in 19:25.
“This was probably the toughest course our boys have ever run and four them had personal bests compared to how they ended last year’s season,” said Tisha Hug, Crest head coach.
Chris Braillier was 23rd in 21:02 followed by David Womelsdorf in 38th at 23:12 and Jory Ramsey in 43rd at 23:46.
Crest did not take its girls to the meet.
In the girls’ varsity race, Marmaton Valley’s Jamee McEndree posted a fifth-place medal time of 14:57 for the two-mile race. Kelsey McClintock finished 33rd in 20:03.
In the junior high one-mile fun run, Marmaton Valley’s Cole Endicott was third in the seventh-grade division and fifth overall in 6:15. Ashtynn Louk placed fourth in the girls’ eighth-grade division and 16th overall in 6:59.
Marmaton Valley and Crest compete at Fort Scott next Thursday.
