Marmaton Valley, Humboldt athletes open track season

RICHMOND — Marmaton Valley High and Humboldt High track teams began the 2009 season in Friday’s Central Heights High Invitational.
Humboldt’s Scott Sollars led area athletes in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles. Sollars ran second in 44 seconds, followed by teammate Chris Winner at 44.5 seconds. Marmaton Valley’s Kurtis LaRue took fourth in 45.9 seconds.
Winner was third in the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.6 seconds. LaRue took fourth in 17.1 seconds.
Humboldt’s Nick Miller ran fifth in the 100-meter dash in 11.9 seconds. Marmaton Valley’s Zach Louk was fourth in the 3200-meter run in 11 minutes, 38 seconds just ahead of Humboldt’s Andy Hill, 11:39, for fifth.
Marmaton Valley’s 4x100-meter relay team of Jacob Conkling, Shawn Storrer, Skyler Houk and Mikael Hatfield was sixth in 52.5 seconds.
Storrer was fourth in the javelin with a throw of 133 feet, 8 inches and Hatfield was fifth at 120’4”. LaRue took fifth in the long jump with a distance of 18’7”.
Humboldt’s Sollars placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 38’41⁄4”. Hill of Humboldt was fifth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5’4”.
In the girls division, Humboldt’s Raquel Hill ran third in the 3200-meter race in 13:30. Hill was fifth in the 1600-meter run in 6:19.
Hill combined with Darrah Tinkler, Emily Durand and Michaela Bartlett for a sixth-place finish in the 4x800-meter relay race. The Lady Cubs’ time was 13:12.
Marmaton Valley’s Mercedes Trollope was fifth in the long jump. She had a leap of 12’91⁄2”.
Humboldt’s Desi Churning took sixth in the javelin with a throw of 63’3”.
On Thursday, Marmaton Valley goes to Frontenac and Humboldt is at Eureka.
