MVHS overpowers Altoona-Midway

MORAN — Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcat baseball team was too much for visiting Altoona-Midway High’s Jets Monday.
The Wildcats outscored the Jets 27 -1 in two games. The two wins pushed the Wildcats to 5-3 in Three Rivers League play and 6-8 overall.
Marmaton Valley won 11-0 in five innings with Ethan Ericson on the mound in the first game. E. Ericson limited the Jets to two hits and walked one. He struck out 12.
Tom Stinnett, who was 6-for-6 in the doubleheader, connected for a single and a double in the opener. Logan Booth and Tanner Lewis each had two singles. Hitting a single each were Garret Ericson, Randall Kuns and Ryan Stephens.
Stinnett led the offensive assault in the second game with two singles, a double and a triple.The Wildcats had 12 hits but also took advantage of 12 walks issued by Altoona-Midway pitching.
Garret Ericson was the winning pitcher as he and Derrick Carr combined for a four-inning no-hitter. Ericson had five strikeouts and walked one. Carr allowed one run on two walks and a hit batter.
Garret Ericson hit a three-run home run. Booth had three base hits. Hitting a single each were Ben Biggs, Lewis, Kuns and Carr.
Marmaton Valley has a makeup doubleheader with Jayhawk-Linn at home Thursday to end the regular season.
The Wildcats are in the Class 2-1A regional baseball tournament at Yates Center next week.
