MORAN — Coming off a 0-21 season, Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcat girls were hungry for a win.
That victory came in the third game of the 2009-2010 season. The Wildcats defeated Humboldt High’s Lady Cubs 45-23 Thursday in the second round of the MVHS Preseason Tournament.
Marmaton Valley’s losing streak had run to 25 straight games. The streak extended to the final two games of the 2007-2008 basketball season.
The last win a Wildcat team had was a 35-29 victory at Pleasanton on Feb. 16, 2008.
“Marmaton Valley worked hard and had fun with it,” said Humboldt head coach Jeff Wilkerson, whose team is 0-3 for the season.
“Every night we’re scoring more points so we’re moving in the right direction.”
Marmaton Valley had a 20-11 halftime advantage Thursday over Humboldt. The Wildcats continued to stay in front in the second half.
They outscored the Lady Cubs 14-5 in the third period. Marmaton Valley finished the job with an 11-7 run in the final eight minutes.
