MORAN — Lydia Lance claimed a Missouri state championship on trampoline at the Missouri State Gymnastics meet, April 25 in Joplin, Mo.
Lance, a freshman at Marmaton Valley High School, is a member of The Flip Shop gymnastic team from Joplin, Mo. She has been training at The Flip Shop the past two years, so she competes as a Missouri athlete in the USA Gymnastics Trampoline and Tumbling Junior Olympics.
Lance won the state title in the Level 7, 15-and-older age group in trampoline and was reserve state champion in the double mini trampoline competition.
Lance qualified to compete in both events at the 2009 USA Gymnastics Trampoline and Tumbling Junior Olympics Championships in late June at San Jose, Calif.
This weekend Lance will compete in the Region 4 Championships in Grand Rapids, Mich., attempting to qualify for the national meet in tumbling.
“I’m excited about the state championship on the trampoline and doing so well on the double mini but I really want to qualify in tumbling. The floor exercise is what I really love so I’m going out this weekend to do my best in order to qualify in tumbling,” Lance said.
Lance began competing in trampoline and tumbling five years ago at a gym in Ottawa, which closed in July 2007. Lance has qualified for the national competition all five years.
She is the daughter of Loren and Regena Lance of Moran.
