Lancers claim big win on the road

AMORET, Mo. — Crest High rode its punishing ground attack to its third straight win to open the 2009 season Friday.
The Lancers rolled up more than 400 yards on the ground, jumping to a 26-0 lead in a 58-28 win over Miami R-1 High.
“We had some fun tonight,” Lancer head coach Brent Smith said. “We did a good job of blocking from end to end.”
The night was particularly explosive for Bryan Newton and Kyle Hammond. Newton rushed for 202 yard and four touchdowns, covering three, one, three and 55 yards. Hammond, meanwhile, scored on runs of one, six, 12 and six yards while rushing for 128 more.
There’s more. Dakota Ramsey had 62 yards on the ground, while Hammond completed all three of his attempts for 20 yards.
Miami rallied a bit in the second half to keep things interesting, but the Lancers scored 18 points in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Hammond and Newton sandwiched touchdown runs around a one-yard run by Thomas Dietrich.
Dietrich had 12 tackles, followed by Dexter Wiley with 11 stops, Dakota Ramsey and Zach Stinnett with nine apiece and Micah Smith with seven.
Stinnett also had four sacks and Dietrich had two of the Lancers nine. Also recording sacks were Ramsey, Byran Miller, Smith and Dustin Womelsdorf.
Crest hosts Altoona-Midway next Friday.
