Lancers blast the Jets

COLONY — Crest High’s Lancers went home early last night after they rolled up 55 first-half points to trigger the mercy rule.
“We got after it pretty good,” Coach Brent Smith said of his team’s victory over Altoona-Midway.
That the Lancers did, scoring 42 points in the first quarter and 13 in the second.
Statistics were just as one-sided. Crest had 305 total yards, 234 on 24 rushes and 71 on three pass completions. Altoona-Midway managed just 45 yards rushing on 21 carries and six aerial yards.
Crest got its first touchdown 47 seconds into the game when Bryan Newton pranced into the end zone from six yards out. Kyle Hammond ran in a two-point conversion. Hammond than gathered in a pass from Zach Stinnett, good for nine yards and another touchdown. Hammond again posted a two-pointer.
