Lady Vikings thump Eagles

UNIONTOWN — Uniontown High’s Eagle girls weren’t up to the challenge of ninth-ranked Central Heights High’s Lady Vikings Friday.
In the season and home finale, the Eagles didn’t have the fight and lost 50-16.
“We just did not compete tonight,” said Ken Holt, Uniontown head coach. “Central Heights has a great team but I thought we made them look even better.”
Central Heights (16-4) is ranked in the top 10 of most Kansas Class 3A girls’ polls.
The Eagles hung with the Lady Vikings early, down 7-4 at the end of the first quarter. After that it was all Central Heights.
The Lady Vikings were up 28-8 by halftime and outscored the Eagles 18-4 in the third quarter.
Uniontown shot a very chilly 15 percent, 5 of 34, from the field. Central Heights hit at a 40-percent clip, 21 of 53, from the field.
At the free-throw line, the Eagles were 5 of 8 and the Lady Vikings were 7 of 13. Uniontown committed 19 turnovers.
Abbie Smith led the Eagles with five points. Jacy Ermel had four points, eight rebounds and three steals plus three blocked shots. Kait Spainhoward had six rebounds.
Marissa Cox paced Central Heights with 20 points. Elli Ouellette added 12 points.
Uniontown finished the regular season at 8-12. The Eagles travel to Pleasanton (9-11) Tuesday for first-round play of a Kansas Class 2A Substate Basketball Tournament.
