Lady Titans deck the Lady Lancers

LE ROY — Fourth-ranked Southern Coffey County High’s Lady Titans overpowered Crest High’s Lady Lancers 60-16 in the season opener Thursday night.
In front of a home crowd, the Lady Titans opened the gates early, leading 26-4 at the end of the first quarter. Their lead ballooned to 45-11 by halftime.
“The girls had great intensity on both ends of the floor,” said Jeff True, Lady Titan head coach. “The girls coming off the bench kept the momentum up. We got 28 points from our bench players.”
With a 59-13 lead going into the fourth quarter, the teams played under a running clock.
Southern Coffey County shot 54 percent, 23 of 42, from the field. Crest hit five field goals in the game and was 6 of 10 from the free-throw line.
Southern Coffey County, which was 12 of 22 from the line, had 10 players score in the game. Ashton Gudenkauf led the way with 13 points and five rebounds and Laurie Ohl had 11 points.
Kristen Garland dished out five assists. Sam Jacob had four steals for the Lady Titans.
Ashley Catt was Crest’s leading scorer with four points. Kolbie Gilliland and Amanda Strickler each had three points.
No other individual statistics were available from Crest.
The Lady Lancers (0-1) turn around and play at home tonight against Jayhawk-Linn High.
Southern Coffey County (1-0) will host Burlingame Tuesday, starting Lyon County League play.
In a two-quarter junior varsity game, Southern Coffey County beat Crest 20-17. Ashley Johnson had seven points and Jenna Witteman six for Southern Coffey County.
