Crest High’s Tana Schooler looks over the defense during a recent home game. Schooler and the Lady Lancers figured things out for a strong second half Monday to win 60-34 over visiting Altoona-Midway in 1A regional play.

COLONY — Sixteen minutes — that’s all the time Crest High’s Lady Lancers had left. They trailed visiting Altoona-Midway High 19-16 at halftime Monday.
“I told them they had 16 minutes to make up their minds what they were going to do. We lose we’re done,” said Brent Smith, Lady Lancer head coach.
The Lady Lancers provided the answer to their coach’s challenge in a dominatating way. Crest erased the three-point deficit with a 31-2 run in the third quarter.
The Jets never caught up and the Lady Lancers posted a 60-34 victory. It came in the first round of the Kansas Class 1A Regional Tournament.
“They’re fun to watch when they play like that. We got more intense in the second half and our shots started to fall which increased our shooting confidence,” Smith said.
Awaiting Crest (8-13) in the semifinal round is top-seeded and fifth-ranked Southern Coffey County High’s Lady Titans. Southern Coffey County (18-2) plays Crest at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
