Lady Cubs split TVL showdown

HUMBOLDT — Humboldt High’s Lady Cubs and Caney Valley High’s Lady Bullpups collided Monday and something had to give. Both teams were undefeated in Tri-Valley League softball play.
Guess what. Each team won a game.
The Lady Cubs claimed a 5-0 win in the opener to climb to 11-0 in TVL play and 17-0 overall. Lenzie Boring was the winning pitcher as she allowed five hits, walked on and recorded 10 walks.
Humboldt scored two runs each in the first and fourth innings. The Lady Cubs added a run in the third.
Megan Dillow connected for three singles and a triple. Kelci Owens and Callie Umholtz had two singles each. Bailey Myers and Ky-lee Carson each had a single.
But Caney Valley took a 10-8 decision in 10 innings in the second game. Boring took the loss on the mound, surrendering 16 hits and striking out 10.
The Lady Bullpups were up 7-3 when the Lady Cubs plated five runs in the sixth inning for the lead. Caney Valley tied the game with a run in the seventh and then score twice in the 10th to win.
Dillow had three singles while Owens hit two doubles and a single. Umholtz and Boring each had a triple.
Rachel Green had two base hits. Myers, Carson and Taylyn Wells had one single each.
So Humboldt ends the regular season 17-1 and 11-1 in TVL play. Humboldt hosts a Class 2-1A regional tournament next week.
