Lady Titans beat Wildcats, Indians

LE ROY — Southern Coffey County High’s Lady Titans collected two non-league victories Monday.
Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats made the trip to Le Roy and lost to Southern Coffey County 25-16, 25-21.
“Marmaton Valley has improved compared to what we’ve seen in the past,” said Korey Lankton, SCCH head coach. “I can tell they’ve worked hard to improve on the fundamentals. Our girls played with confidence and got an early lead in the first set.”
Kristen Garland was credited with 21 set assists for the Lady Titans. Laurie Ohl had nine kills and Shelby Birk had seven kills.
Marmaton Valley got five kills and one block from Tiffany Dudley and three kills and two blocks from Cheyanne Miller. Morgan Henry had three kills. Alyssa Stewart had eight set assists.
The Wildcats dropped a 26-24, 26-20 decision to St. Paul.
“Those were two very good teams and our girls should be proud of how they played,” said Lindsay Ermel, MVHS head coach.
“Our girls have im-proved their play since the beginning of the season. We didn’t get the wins but we got some confidence.”
For the Wildcats against St. Paul, Alysha Westhoff had 17 set assists. Chey-anne Miller had nine kills and one block. Maggie Meiwes had two kills and four blocks and Tiffany Dudley had four kills and four blocks.
Southern Coffey County defeated St. Paul’s Indians but it took three sets to do it, 20-25, 25-14, 25-23.
Birk, Sam Jacob and Ohl each delivered eight kills. Kaitlin Meyer powered down 12 kills and had three blocks. Garland had 27 set assists.
