Iola hosts Zone 4 tournament

Play begins tonight in the Kansas American Legion AA Zone 4 Tournament at Allen County Community College’s Red Devil Field.
Iola Leslie J. Campbell Post 15’s Indians are the host team.
The Indians, who bowed out of the Kansas Amateur Baseball Association (KABA) tournament Friday, play Garnett at 6:30 tonight in the zone tournament opener. Chanute takes on Linn County at 8:30 p.m.
Burlington is the top seed in the zone tournament followed by Fort Scott, Chanute, Iola, Garnett and Linn County. A complete tournament bracket was unavailable to the Register as of press time.
Games will be played tonight through Friday at 6:30 and 8:30 at the ACCC field. The winner of the zone tournament qualifies for the Kansas American Legion AA State Tournament, July 30-Aug. 3, in Sabetha.
Last week, according to information off the KABA Web site, Iola lost 13-1 to Coffeyville Tuesday in the KABA tournament at Burlington. On Friday, the Indians dropped a 7-2 decision to Eudora and were eliminated from the event.
