Iola freshman teams split in tourney play

FORT SCOTT — Iola High’s freshman basketball teams began play in the Fort Scott High freshman tournament Monday.
Iola’s girls defeated Chanute 46-36. Kendra Taiclet fired in 26 points for the Fillies. Lisa McFadden added 12.
“Kelsey Adams and Jordan Dillingham did a good job of rebounding and playing defense for us,” said Pat Lonergan, IHS girls’ assistant coach.
The Fillies take on Jayhawk-Linn at 5 p.m, Wednesday at Fort Scott High School. On Friday, they play Fort Scott at the high school at 5 p.m.
The Iola boys dropped a 56-35 decision to Fort Scott Monday. Christian Kauth paced the Mustangs with 10 points. Drew Walden and Jerrik Sigg each had eight points.
The Mustang freshmen play Chanute at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fort Scott’s Buck Run Community Center. On Friday at 5 p.m. they play Marmaton Valley at Buck Run.
