Iola Sonic battles hard to take second place

Iola Sonic, a 13-and-under AA baseball traveling team, placed second at the Johnson County 3 & 2’s Inaugural Missouri-Kansas Border War Battle tournament, June 6-7 in Overland Park.
Iola Sonic defeated Oak Grove (Mo.) Hawks 15-8 with Trent Latta pitching. Sonic recorded a 6-5 win over Midwest Vipers of St. Joseph, Mo. Aaron Barclay was the winning pitcher and Matt Miller picked up the save.
Iola Sonic had another 6-5 win against the Lee ‘s Summit (Mo.) Copperheads. Jacob Rhoads was the winning pitcher as Miller and Latta shared the save.
On Sunday, Iola Sonic lost 11-3 to Sedalia Braves, as Bryce Misenhelter, Trey Wilson and Miller pitched.
Iola Sonic made it to the championship game but lost 3-0 to the Andrew County Kings, St. Joseph, Mo. Jake Gould took the loss on the mound for Sonic.
No hitting statistics for Iola Sonic were reported to the Register. After the tournament, the Iola Sonic has an 8-10 record.
Other members of the team are Eric Heffern, Brent Walford, Derrick Weir and Drew Faulhaber. The team is coached by Bruce Faulhaber, Roland Weir, Randy Latta, Neal Barclay and Larry Heffern.
