Iola JV track teams fare well

FORT SCOTT — Competing in the Fort Scott High JV track meet Tuesday, Iola High’s Fillies posted seven gold-medal performances.
Iola High’s Mustang junior varsity had four event champions at the meet.
No team scores were kept at the meet.
Kendra Taiclet earned two individual gold medals and helped two relay teams strike gold. Taiclet won the 100-meter high hurdles in 17.8 seconds and the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 52.9 seconds.
Kelsey Larson won the 400-meter dash in 61.7 seconds. She took the silver medal in the high jump, clearing 4 feet, 4 inches, with teammate Celeste Ambrose taking fifth at 4’2”. Ambrose placed sixth in the 200-meter dash in 30.8 seconds.
Taiclet, Larson and Ambrose combined with Jamie Spears for a winning time of 55.6 seconds in the 4x100-meter relay. Abby Works teamed with Taiclet, Larson and Spears to win the 4x400-meter relay race in 4 minutes, 36 seconds.
Works and Spears combined with Kristen Lin and Jordan Dillingham to win the 4x800-meter relay in 11:46.6. Jennica Rausch placed third in the 3200-meter run in 15:02.2. Lin was fifth the 800-meter run in 3:11.7.
Katlyn Cleaver placed second in the shot put with a throw of 28’7”. Hallie Wolf was fourth in the event and McKinley Ford took sixth.
Ty Ellis claimed gold in the javelin with a throw of 84’1”. Cleaver finished third with a throw of 72’1”.
For the Mustangs, Dylan Allen won the javelin throw with a distance of 149’6” and teammate Ralph Shafer was second at 138’10”. Kyle Heffern took fifth at 126’11”. Heffern earned the silver medal in the discus with a toss of 138’10”.
Nate Pope was a double gold medal winner for Iola. He won the 1600-meter race in 5:10.8 and finished first in the 3200-meter run in 11:12.4. Seth Kristalyn was third in the 1600 meters in 5:23.7 and fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:21.7. Bryan Miller placed fifth in the 3200-meter run in 12:07.5.
Iola’s 4x800-meter relay team of Roman Yocham, Christian Kauth, Eli Johns and Dustin Jones won the race in 9:17.7. The same foursome ran second in the 4x400-meter relay race in 3:55.0.
Drew Shepherd finished second in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet. He was sixth in the high jump at 5 feet. Kauth placed fourth in the triple jump at 35’11 1/2”.
In a field event 4x100-meter relay, Heffern, Ryan Thompson, Dylan Lower and Shafer ran for Iola.
