Iola JV football game rained out

Rain, mud that’s all well and good to play high school football in.
But Tuesday’s all-day rain was too much.
“Three-quarters of the football field was under water and water covered the track from lane one to lane seven,” said Martin Bambick, IHS athletic director, after the junior varsity ball game against Girard at Riverside Park’s stadium Tuesday evening was called off.
“We weren’t worried about playing on a muddy field but there just was too much water and it wasn’t letting up.”
There was also lightning in the area, which would have caused action to be halted.
Bambick said Iola and Girard are looking into trying to reschedule but “it doesn’t look promising because of conflicts later in the season.”
The junior varsity goes to Central Heights High School at Richmond Monday. The game starts at 4:30 p.m.
