Indians earn split with Fort Scott

A six-run fifth inning propelled Iola American Legion Post 15’s Indians to an 8-5 victory Thursday over visiting Fort Scott.
The Indians weren’t as fortunate in the other game of the doubleheader, falling 8-0.
In the victory, Iola trailed 5-2 going into the bottom of the fifth before the first five batters reached safely. Drew Walden conneced on a two-run single to lead the rally.
Derrek McKarnin connected for a single and triple, while Drew Mueller, Chris Heffern, Nick Cook, Walden and Ryan Latta each connected for one single apiece.
McKarnin, Mark Bristol and Keatin Herder pitched, giving up 7 hits with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks.
Iola was limited to two hits in the loss, a first-inning single by Corey Taylor and a third-inning single by Latta.
Cook and Bristol pitched, giving up 8 hits with 4 strikeouts and 3 walks.
